Just 18.6 km to day, but the second half of it was along the road into this city of 130,000. I walked alone and it was a glorious morning — sunrise over the city walls, across the Rio Elsa, and through farmland and 2 small villages — just me and my shadow. Once closer to the city, it was the like the outskirts of any city with car dealerships and large box stores. But once inside the city walls of Leon, it was a different story.
Since I have tomorrow as a rest day in this ancient city, I will write more about Leon in the next post.
I handled my laundry, and met up with Nadina and ran into people from along the way around the square near the Cathedral. Dinner was with Montana Bob and Aussie Will, after we’d had a drink with Matt, the pilot from Colorado that I had met with Nadina days ago. In the town, there are festivals underway and many people milling about the streets even late. It will be fun to have a day here tomorrow to explore more.
A few photos from the walk today, (many haven’t downloaded to the cloud yet!), and more on Leon coming up next.
I came in on Day 23 and have been loving every stage of your journey. Thanks for sharing…. I’m soooooooo jealous. Can’t wait to wake up to day 24.
Love the shadow pic!!!
