Day 24: January 24, Kaikora to Christchuch

It was our last day with Active Adventures, and we were meant to snorkel with the local area fur seals, but our guide/instructor had to cancel at the last minute, so we settled for a walking tour by the shore.  Most of the fur seals were lounging on rocks, but a few made themselves at home right on the boardwalk. They were fun to watch as they waddled across the gravel back toward the sea.  It was a quick visit, and a short stroll through the town of Kaikora, a beach/surf town that is known for whale and dolphin watching, eating crayfish and watching the fur seals, completed our time there.

Back in the van and a couple of hours to the airport in Christchurch.  The ten of us all had different flights heading to our home cities around the US and Asia.  Once there we had group hugs and got ourselves settled in for our respective trips.

I had planned to go on to Australia from Christchurch, and had 3 more weeks of adventure intended, but as they say, “Make plans, God laughs”.  I’m needed back in the US for some family issues, so  I left Christchurch at 4:45PM on Sunday and arrived back in LA at 10:30AM on Sunday.  So this is the last post of the Down Under in Oz and NZ travel adventure blog… And I will end with a few pics of those adorable fur seals.  Thanks for tuning in!
