April 29: Sydney — the final day in Australia

Oh my.  10 weeks down under, and it all ends tomorrow. (Not all really, just the Australia part. Off to Japan in the morning). I have seen so much, and been so many places that I have to look at my photo stream (or re-read this blog) to recall it all. I’ve met wonderful people, re-connected with others I’ve known before and have had experiences that were touristy, and some that were living like a local. It’s a huge, beautiful and diverse country, and the people are warm and embracing. But I’m ready for the next adventure.

So, a few parting photos from a day with my sister, Yvonne. The Art Gallery of NSW sits at the corner of the Royal Botanic Gardens and The Domain gardens and had two special exhibits — John Olsen, a well-known Australian painter, and Adman:  Andy Warhol before Pop.  Both were fascinating. John Olsen creates huge, bright abstracts that seem to be designed to make you smile. The Warhol exhibit was about the early days — when he was first in NYC and creating illustrations for magazine covers and advertising. It was a snapshot into the early MadMen ad days in NYC.

After a stroll through the gardens and along the harbor we joined the throngs enjoying the sun with a Aperol Spritz and a view of the Harbor Bridge. We had a lovely afternoon and evening.

And that’s the end of this chapter.

Tune in soon for the next bit — 4 weeks in Japan!
